Burgers in Galați: what matters in the bun

How a burger is judged, what the weight on the menu actually means, and what is on our list, from the classic to bison.

Ciorbe La Ion

Burgers are made in plenty of places in Galați, from fast food counters to restaurants with their own grill. We are not going to put anyone first, because we could not prove it. What we can tell you is how a burger is judged, and what is written, in black and white, on our list.

Four things you can see on the plate

The stated weight. A menu that tells you what the whole burger weighs gives you something to compare. One that says nothing leaves you guessing whether you are paying for 200 grams or 350.

The meat. What kind, and in what proportion. "Beef" is not the same as "100% beef", and if the menu only says "meat", you have no way of knowing what you are eating.

The bun. It has to hold the sauce without falling apart before the last bite. You only notice a good bun when it is missing.

What gets declared. A burger has a bun, cheese, sauce, often bacon. Each of them can bring allergens and additives from its maker. A menu that lists them per item lets you choose knowing what is in front of you.

What is on our list

Thirteen burgers, under the Burgeri by Grill Domnesc heading, from 35.50 lei to 80.50 lei. The classic, cheeseburger, chicken, chicken crispy, barbeque, mexican, egg burger, prawn, double cheeseburger and double chicken crispy. There is a vegetarian burger too.

Two stand apart because of the meat, and that is a matter of ingredients, not of praise. The Wagyu burger is 350 g of 100% Wagyu beef, with mushrooms, cheddar, roasted kapia peppers and bacon, at 70.50 lei. The bison burger is also 350 g, 100% bison meat, with cheddar, pickled cucumbers and bacon, at 80.50 lei.

Every item on the menu declares its ingredients, allergens and any additives that come from the maker. Where a bought-in product, such as bacon or the bun, arrives with additives, we write them beside that dish.
